In California, the population of those who have reached the age of 65 or older since 1990 has increased by at least 50%. This special group is expected to substantially increase its numbers as more and more baby boomers reach the age of 65.
California has recognized that many members of this group are more and more dependent upon others to provide some level of care giving, health, transportation, and money management assistance. Recognizing the vulnerability of those in this group, California has enacted the Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act (EADACPA) in order to maximize legal protection for members of this group.
As a result of the unique needs and the rapid increase of population for those that are 65 and older, elder law has become an emerging area of legal practice that addresses the diverse and special needs of those individuals that are 65 or older.
